Halifax Business Community, Newcomers Sitting Down for Dinner

Halifax’s business community is sitting down to dinner tonight, April 30, with newcomers to Nova Scotia.

The dinner, hosted by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, is an opportunity for newcomers to learn about Halifax’s business community and vice-versa.

“Immigrants bring global experience, new skills and ideas to our province,” said Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab. “I want to congratulate the Halifax Chamber of Commerce for reaching out to newcomers and promoting diversity.”

Chamber members donated a block of dinner tickets to services association clients. The annual spring dinner is a major fundraiser for the chamber. Nicholas Wyman, CEO of the Institute for Workplace Skills and Innovation, will give the keynote address.

Outgoing chamber board chair Francis Fares and incoming board chair Rob Batherson will challenge chamber members to invite newcomers into their homes and places of business.
