Immigration Advisory Council
The Minister of Immigration will appoint nine individuals to serve as members of an Immigration Advisory Council. Through the council, business, labour and community leaders can help Nova Scotia achieve its immigration goals by advising government on labour market needs, economic opportunities, immigration priorities, policies and programs.
Members will be chosen for their ability to provide a well-informed, balanced opinion on issues. They figure prominently in their fields of endeavour, are prepared to give freely of their time, and set aside their own interests in participating.
The members will represent the geographic, cultural, economic and social diversity of the province, in an inclusive manner.
One seat on the council will be designated for a member from the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities.
The key functions of the council will be to:
- bring to the attention of the Minister, labour market needs as they relate to immigration and matters of interest and concern to immigrants;
- identify potential solutions to these matters;
- participate in immigration education and promotional initiatives of the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration as appropriate.
The establishment of the council is a direct response to feedback government received during consultations for the province’s Immigration Strategy.
The deadline for application to the Immigration Advisory Council was May 15, 2008. No new applications are being accepted. The applications received are under review.
